Migrant cuisine and creativity

On 28 November 2018 Ljubljana hosted an event that was aimed to connect design and creativity in Ljubljana and Graz. It was titled: “Migrant cuisine and creativity”. The event happened in the restaurant Skuhna, which is located in the heart of the Trubarjeva street, which is well known for various activities of migrant entrepreneurs.

In Skuhna we could taste the cuisine of the global South, spiced up with the design particularities of various countries. Moreover, migrants that found their home in Ljubljana thought us how to create dolls out of cloth as traditionally done in Bangladesh and how to make leather bracelets as people do it in Argentina. The rhythm to the event was given by the drummer that plays the music of Burkina Faso.

Debbie Adams, Kiwi living in Austria, who manages the Seddwell Center – Bohemian Soul in Graz, also participated at the event. Center is located in the street Dreihackengasse – kind of a Graz version of the Trubarjeva street. Debbie was happy to acquaint herself with the creativity and design variety of the Trubarjeva street and returned home full of impressions. Her visit may be a start of a colourful cooperation between Ljubljana and Graz.
